artist statement
The idea that an old dingy front door could be transformed into another useful object that could inhabit the same general space as it did in its original state was really interesting to me. The challenge was to create a useful object that has no real resemblance to the door but contains physical and psychological hints about what it once was. As a door the object conveyed a sense of psychological comfort and security and through its rebirth as a front porch rocking chair it maintains the idea of comfort through ergonomic design.

artist bio
Growing up as a Native Memphian, I can recall building several things as a youth, from furniture to structures. After receiving an Architectural Degree from the University of Memphis and a Master of Architecture from Virginia Tech I returned to Memphis and began working for Looney Ricks Kiss Architects, where I worked for about 14 years. At LRK I was involved in many different project types but my passion for furniture design continued to flourish throughout various projects, both personal and professional. I believe that my passion can be seen in each piece that I design, whether it’s a home or a furniture piece. Each has its own soul and spirit that engages the senses through the experience of the piece or space.
