Child’s Play

preview location: 2282 Madison Avenue | Howard Hall

art note:
The lead paint content of the door in fact renders the door inappropriate for child’s play. The wooden door itself invites multiple uses for creative execution - to break the material waste cycle, more conscientious thought is needed of the products we develop from here on out so that they may safely become child’s play.

artist statement
This was a shared challenge between Chris Clark, Sam Griffin, and Josh Jackson. Entitled ‘Child’s Play’, our trio created an interlocking box composed of the pieces of a door. We calculated the approximate volume of the door and decided to condense it into a more compact package-- a cube. The submittal requirements specified that 70% of the door be used. Give or take- our cubic solution utilizes 70% of the original door. The multi-colored boxes and pieces are simply presented; coated in a paint wash and sealed to contain the lead paint.
