artist statement
DOORWAY TO PICASSO’S MIND was inspired by my love of the artist’s full range of work, but most particularly his unparalleled personal entanglement with women. Picasso’s work, images and motivations were propelled by his relationships with women. His seven year-old sister died when Picasso was 16. It was devastating to the emerging artist on one hand, but on the other hand it vaulted him to a life of constantly pursuing women. Picasso’s mind was graced and tormented with beauty, with women, with breasts. His paintings depict hot afternoons, and cool mornings. Standing nudes and reclining nudes. I have selected a few from different periods for this expression.
