Terry Woodard
Behind the Door at E&H

preview location: 2282 Madison Avenue | Howard Hall

artist statement
There was a sign over the door when I picked it out that read Ernestine & Hazel’s and it was the inspiration for the image behind the door. I imaged what an old door may have been witness to. The fact that the girl is ethereal gives a memorable character to the work and speaks to the history of the door and E&H.

So much to capture and the years so brief,
That when you catch time there is relief,
Knowing you seized some shape that we can see,
So that others may keep its moment of mystery.
