Designers transformed Cache Creek Resort’s existing spa into an enhanced 12,000 SF full-service luxury spa retreat layered in ambience, richness of texture and sensory experience.

Nestled in the heart of the Capay Valley outside Sacramento, California, among acres of farmland, ranches and the rushing Cache Creek River, sits the four-diamond Cache Creek Resort, recently enhanced by an impressive new 459-room resort hotel and expanded spa experience.

Designers were challenged to transform the existing spa space–which was made up of a smaller spa, meeting rooms and public restrooms–into an expansive luxury spa retreat. In response, designers reconfigured the layout and drew inspiration from the agrarian landscape of the valley and nearby river to create a serene design story for the spa’s new 11 treatment rooms, full-service salon, and men’s and women’s lounges and aquathermal areas, featuring whirlpools, steam rooms, saunas and cooling showers.

Offering a high-end, elegant residential feel, the spa reception and treatment areas blend a rejuvenating palette of French gray and neutral tones with organic upholstery, textural wallcovering, book matched marble look porcelain slabs, dimensional wall tile and a coffered ceiling clad in silver leaf wallcovering.

Playing on the natural light filtering from the adjacent patio, louvered screens and hexagonal floor tiles referencing exterior pavers bring the outdoors into the women’s lounge and plush relaxation rooms. Rich velvet drapery creates private space within public space; by drawing the curtains, the space transforms from an open lounge to several intimate relaxation rooms.

An ultraluxe sensory experience is created in the women’s aquathermal area with the integration of a floor to ceiling Himalayan salt wall with heated loungers next to a warming vitality whirlpool. A dramatic floral-motif mosaic tile focal wall was custom made, derived from a watercolor wildflower study by noted local San Francisco artist, Jen Garrido. The glowing salt wall, the watercolor tile art wall and a whimsical starry sky light show in the steam room combine to set a dramatic mood for the restful pursuits of spa-goers.

A slightly more masculine interpretation of the agrarian inspired design scheme continues into the men’s lounge, with deep gray tones, dark tile set above the vitality pool and leather upholstery throughout.
