In addition to 7 lab floors with modular, “open” multi-purpose advanced laboratory suites, the project includes extensive academic and research laboratories, incorporating the following functions:

• Immunology
• Neurobiology
• Cell and molecular biology
• Gene editing
• Metabolomics
• Advanced microscopy
• Epigenetics
• Genomics
• Immunotherapy
• RNA biology

The project also incorporates office areas on each floor, meeting and collaboration spaces, as well as a conference and event center. There is a "collaboration bridge" across an atrium connecting 3 building wings. The building employs state-of-the-art IT, Data, and AV systems. The exterior design and material selections are based on the existing campus architecture, while introducing more high-tech imagery than typical campus buildings.

Two of the center’s eight floors are slated for future expansion and evolving technology in an effort to make sure the advanced research center meets the needs of new initiatives, like a recent partnership with the World Health Organization to fight cancer abroad, and the growing teams that support them. Led by The Crump Firm (lead architect) and Jacobs Engineering (lab planning), construction is on schedule for completion in Spring of 2021.

The new Advanced Research Center for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is designed as an interactive hub of exploration and discovery to cultivate transformative research and collaboration.
