Step 1: Cultivate bright ideas

Cross-pollination is the goal so we have a couple of assignments for you before you come. Completely optional but far more fun and effective as we spin some design goodness.

Look at other Centers around the World

Not sure what a Center for Architecture + Design is about? Not a problem. We have dozens of examples to help us structure our thoughts. Each Center is independent and evolves as a response to its community, needs, budgets and resources. Here's where we stand on those categories:

Building: Beale Street Landing

Traffic: Guests of Tom Lee Park (especially events such as festivals), Riverboat Cruise Companies, event rentals

Budget: Shoestring - but we're growing!

Community: We serve the downtown Memphis market including business professionals, youth, partner organizations, etc.

Assets: Tables, chairs, meeting equipment, catering kitchen

Others to explore include: San Francisco, Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii, Chicago, New Orleans, Austin, Philadelphia, Seattle, Canada, Washington DC, Houston, Tampa Bay, Miami

Cross-pollinate

Now, bring us some imagery. Print snapshots of your ideas, jot some notes on them (especially your contact info!) and bring them with you. Some examples include:

  • Programs your organization is doing that would thrive in our space (we are scouting for quality partners!)
  • Programs you see from other Centers that sound spectacular
  • Ideas from your Pinterest board
  • Pics of activities you've done before in other venues (fine art classes, sculpture, lunch-n-learns, etc.)

We will have space for you to display your ideas along with other guests.

Step 2: Salon

Now it's time for the magic to happen. A "Salon" is a gathering of people often consciously following Horace's definition of the aims of poetry: "either to please or to educate." During the 17th and 18th Century French literary and philsophical movements, Salons became a key moment for the exchange of ideas.

4pm  |  NECTAR

Come by CiV for a Bees Knees cocktail reception as you take a look at the programs we are considering for CiV and AIA Memphis this Fall and next year.

Add your own program ideas to our Pollinator Garden (see Step 1 above). Vote on your favorites.

Enjoy seeing the work of our Summer Scholars while visiting with vendors.

5:30pm  |   HONEY

We'll pause the party for just a moment to acknowledge the 2023 Cohorts of our Summer Scholars and Summer Intern Experience.

6:30pm  |  HARVEST

We have some great prizes for you! As you visit our vendors, collect Auction Bucks to bid on loot.

Step 3: Go. Do.

AIA Memphis will begin the process of evaluating how we may incorporate your ideas and preferences based on the votes of our stakeholders, resources and ability to deliver quality experiences.

We can't wait to see how this all evolves!
