The Opportunity

The Staff Associate Architect will manage projects throughout the UT system from programming through construction. This selected candidate will assist division management and University administrators with the planning and administration of the University’s Capital Program.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participates in the evaluation for the selection of Architect/Engineer and Contractors for Capital Projects.
  • Provides evaluations and feedback of services throughout the design and construction process.
  • Coordination of Design Services on Capital Projects, and Review of designs for each phase of design including:
  • Review and recommendation of payments for design service providers through the process of design & construction.
  • Coordination of Bidding for Construction, receipt and evaluation of bids, and recommendation for Award of Contracts.
  • Coordination/review of Construction of Capital Projects through contractor shop drawings and other submittals reviews, field inspections, progress meetings, problem resolutions and change order reviews, and monthly review and approval of Requests for Payment to Contractor during construction.
  • Coordination of Substantial and Final Completion Inspections, delivery of Project Records, Operations & Maintenance
  • Manuals and Operations Training for Facilities Services, Construction Close-out and Completion/Occupancy.
  • Coordination of collection of feedback from Building Occupants via a Post-Occupancy Evaluation process.
  • Provide assistance to the Department of Capital Projects in reviewing submissions for all capital projects.
  • Coordination of Project Site Selection for specific Capital Projects.
  • Coordination, development, or evaluation of facilities programs for both new and renovation projects.
  • Provide assistance in Master Planning and Master Planning updates for the campus and institutions including facilities assessment needs

Requirements for Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree required and professional registration as a licensed architect (or engineer).
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a registered design professional, preferably in a professional design firm is required.
  • Technical expertise and judgment to identify and diagnose potential problems and solutions is necessary.
  • Experience working with external design professionals and contractors.
  • Experience in design, project management, and construction management.
  • Experience in managing multi-discipline projects and coordinating work among them is essential.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary. The ability to interact effectively with government officials and architectural and engineering professionals is essential.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Facilities associated with higher education is preferred.

Territory Manager Commercial Roofing Systems - Memphis/North MS

GAF is seeking a high energy sales professional with a track record of building successful relationships and closing new business.  The Territory Manager – Low Slope is responsible for the sale of the complete line of GAF commercial roofing products within the TN/MS area area. ​ As a Territory Manager, you will act as a liaison between GAF and our clients, making sure to keep both sides happy. We're here to help our customers build genuine relationships with their customers — the kinds of relationships that create powerful, active communities around our best in class brand. 


Typical Responsibilities:

  • Attack:  Pinpoint market opportunities with contractors, distribution, lumber dealers, retail, and co-ops; with the mindset to build lasting and meaningful relationships. Expect to juggle competing priorities and client requests/deadlines on a regular basis.
  • Build:  Own, progress and close the sales funnel, turning potential opportunities to closed wins, through value-selling the benefits of GAF products. Overcome objections and convert hurdles into growth opportunities.
  • Persist:  Display strong negotiating tactics by leveraging value propositions and pricing strategies.
  • Strategize:  Compile reporting to highlight hits, misses, learning, competitive landscape and strategic next steps; proactively identifying opportunities to exceed expectations and position our clients as leaders in their space.
  • Consult:  Influence the building materials industry; constantly networking to become a trusted advisor to existing and potential customers.  Navigate when to defer to a client's request vs. when to guide a client to make better choices. Thrive on expert problem solving, determining solutions that executing favorable results.  Engage and educate customers with insight and product knowledge via distributor/contractor meetings. Explain complex subject matters (e.g. pricing) to any audience and tactfully communicate both good & bad news.
  • Stand Out:  Make your presence known at customer shows, conventions and other industry related activities.

Positional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is highly preferred.
  • Sales experience in the building material industry is preferred. Multi-channel experience selling roofing materials to distributor, contractor, lumber dealer, two step, architect, property homeowner, retail & Co-Ops is ideal.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite and CRM experience is needed.

Building Design Specialist (Southern US - Remote - residing TX/TN/AR/OK/AL/MS/LA)


Job Description:

The Building Design Specialist will support GAF’s efforts within the commercial / low-slope roofing community through engagement with architects and specifiers to provide significant technical advice and guidance in their design and specification processes.

This role will leverage their professional experience as an Architect and Specifier to provide education and technical guidance about roof system design and performance, best practice, and product specifications to create new business opportunities, generate leads, and develop customer relationships within the design community.

As part of the Building and Roofing Science Team, this position will collaborate with the sales team to support their efforts and become engaged early in the design process to drive specification share, while receiving guidance and support from Building and Roofing Science Architects.


The overarching objectives of this team includes:


  • Promote technical literacy within the design community.
  • Provide concierge service to architects and specifiers and influence specs.
  • Build trust and become the “go to” resource.
  • Support our sales team via upstream customer engagement.
  • Provide technical assistance on large projects as identified by Low Slope Sales and National Accounts, coordinating with the various parts of the organization including Field Services, technical services, manufacturing facilities, and product managers.
  • Work closely with the regional sales teams (GAF & Siplast) to identify influential architects and specifiers, and bring them into the project teams to track projects to sale.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with targeted architects and specifiers within the region to build brand awareness (GAF & Siplast) and increase the specification presence.
  • Assist with technical analysis and decision making for roof systems and project requirements. Waterproofing and pavement coatings are also part of our offerings.
  • Assist with project specifications and detail review and/or development. The goal is to become the Basis of Design and influence high performance roof systems to meet project needs.
  • Provide complete project packages including systems letter, specs, details, tapered design, etc. Assist with review of wind calculations, substitution requests, and shop drawings.
  • Participate in Office Hours to assist project teams with complex project related design challenges and connect them with the local sales team.
  • Provide technical learning opportunities to targeted architects and specifiers to promote technical literacy and become their “go to” resource.
  • Develop and provide training for the local sales team on building science related topics so they can be conversant with their customers.
  • Prepare project and prospecting activity reports for monthly meetings.
  • Participate and take leadership roles in local industry associations including but not limited to ASTM, BEC, CSI, IIBEC/RCI, NRCA and AABA.


LEVEL BASED COMPETENCIES:

Level Based Competencies are to be designated based on job level and content. Technical knowledge/skills (intermediate):


  • Credentialed as a Registered Architect, Professional Engineer, LEED AP, IIBEC RRC, or similar registration
  • Knowledge of roof systems and their interaction with the building enclosure
  • Working knowledge of building science
  • Proficiency in reviewing construction drawings for architectural details and specifications
  • Subject matter specialist in AIA MasterSpec Format and CSI Three-Part Specs


General knowledge/skills (intermediate):


  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Ability to write concisely and clearly about technical topics in an organized manner.
  • Ability to sketch details to communicate design considerations.
  • Good customer relationship skills. This position works closely and collaboratively with the commercial team as well as external customers like designers, developers, general contractor, and roof contractors.
  • Ability to maintain one's own schedule and tasks independently with a friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic attitude.


Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree
  • Minimum five years of experience in the design or building enclosure industry
  • Experience with sales is preferred but not required

Other:

Travel Requirements: 30%; regular travel within the region
